Job Description General Responsibilities & Requirements: As an Exploration Team Member 1 (ETM1) with Terracon you will be an assistant to the Drill Foreman. This is an entry level position designed to train the individual in the various aspects of becoming a driller. You will be part of a two-person team to perform field tasks including but not limited to site layout (GPS coordinates), soil boring and sampling, writing boring logs to log soil type and descriptions of drilling technique used and subsurface conditions encountered, soil boring backfill, site clean-up, obtaining and recording water levels, and installing observation wells under the direction of department head or project manager. Periodic safety training and maintenance tasks will also be required. You will report to Lead Driller for instructions and training. Essential Functions and Duties: * Drives medium to heavy duty trucks and trailers to various job sites as directed by supervisor. Will need to obtain and keep in good standing a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Card (physical required) within the first four months of employment. Performs required truck, trailer & equipment inspections and maintain a DOT Digital Log for hours of operation. * Keep, wear, and maintain at all times required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Including but not limited to; high visibility shirts, jackets or vests, above-the-ankle lace-up steel toed boots, gloves, safety glasses, hard hat, hearing protection. * Assists in boring layout, elevations and GPS coordinates for projects. Learn to read site plan drawings so required boring layout can be performed. Training on basic GPS units as well as survey and leveling equipment will also be performed. * Learn and practice all safety procedures for working with, on and around drilling equipment. Become familiar with the basic operation of the drilling equipment with emphasis on "Kill Switches" and pinch points. * Familiarize and learn the different the different types of augers, bits, rods, tooling and equipment used during the drilling process. * Train in the duties that pertain to performing test borings with an emphasis on proper field log documentation and sample preservation. * Train on the procedures of sampling and installation of groundwater monitoring wells. Obtain required OSHA 40hour Hazwoper training for working with Hazardous Chemicals, Hazwoper Physical and maintain certification with required annual 8hour refresher course. * Obtain and renew as required 1 st Aid & CPR training and certificate. * Loads appropriate drilling, sampling and well installation tools and supplies onto trucks or drill rigs as directed by the drill foreman. * Perform preventative maintenance tasks and monthly support truck inspection sheets for turn-in as assigned by supervisors and prepares documentation. * Perform miscellaneous maintenance duties in field or shop such as sweep & clean shop, putting away supply orders, cleaning and/or maintenance support trucks, trailers and drilling equipment & tooling. This may require the use of grinders, cutting torches, welder, other tooling and all associated PPE. Cleaning the yard, collecting scrape steel directed by supervisors. Physical Requirements: This position is very physically demanding. The physical demands described here are representative to these that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. * This position is extremely physically demanding. * Average work days range from nine to fourteen hours. * While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear and smell. * Frequently required to walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may occasionally require climbing and/or balancing. * Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds, frequently move and/or lift up to 100 pounds. * Employee must regularly twist, screw and lift equipment and supplies. Employee must regularly shovel, sweep and scrape various types of soils, concrete and debris. * Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, coordination depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Essential Skills/Abilities: * An ability to follow multiple verbal and written directives simultaneously while actively functioning in a dynamic environment. * This position requires a valid operator's class driver's license with a good driving record and obtaining a class 'A' CDL and DOT medical card and required DOT random drug testing program within the first four months of employment. Work Environment: * The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters on a day to day basis while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. * Overnight travel will be required with this position; an estimated average would be 40 % to 70 % of the time. Usually travel is between one to five nights but can be up to several weeks. Benefits * Per Diem currently $150/day for overnight travel (after tax) * PTO accrual.
