Job Title: Technician I (Equipment Service)

Location: Coralville, IA

Shift: Weekend Overnights (Friday/Saturday/Sunday 6:00pm - 6:00am)

*May be subject to adjustment after COVID-19 shift segregation precautions ends.

Purpose statement:  

The Technician I role supports the reliability and sustainability of custom automated laboratory equipment in a high throughput environment.  Within IDT’s quality system associates will coordinate and perform preventative maintenance services and address unplanned maintenance services on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, fluidics, and optical devices/systems, as well as PLC Controlled systems.   

 

Job Specific Essential Functions: 

  • Ensures operation of custom automated laboratory equipment by completing preventive and unplanned service in compliance with IDT’s quality system.? 

  • Troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, fluidics, and optical devices/systems, as well as PLC Controlled systems  

  • Coordinates events with manufacturing to ensure preventative and unplanned maintenance is completed. 

  • Gathers and reviews data to support maintenance database for assets and instrumentation.  

  • Follows Standard Operating Procedure and Work Instruction documents while performing maintenance procedures. 

  • Recommends actions for continuous improvement and cost reduction. 

  • Provides input and constructive feedback to design staff regarding new and existing equipment, to streamline troubleshooting and service requirements and to increase product quality.? 

  • Collaborates among cross-functional teams to support and accomplish production objectives. 

  • Resolves complex problems working with a team and individually. 

  • Practices safe working habits, follows all IDT safety policies. Identifies, corrects, and reports potential safety hazards. 

  • Executes multiple assigned activities in parallel to support production and engineering improvements. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

Education: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. 

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering or Maintenance related program or equivalent technical education or experience preferred. 

 

Professional Experience: 

  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, fluidics, optical devices/systems, controls systems and other equipment as typically acquired by an Associate's degree (Engineering or Maintenance) or at least two years of related experience required. 

  • Ability to read and understand part drawings and specifications required.? 

  • Familiarity with automation equipment testing and troubleshooting preferred.? 

  • Familiarity with Beckhoff TwinCat/EtherCat or similar structured text control systems preferred.? 

  • Familiarity with Unitronic or similar ladder logic control systems preferred.? 

 

Other Job Qualifications 

  • Ability to use hand and power tools.? 

  • Skill to using a soldering iron.? 

  • Ability to follow diagrams, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications.? 

  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with suppliers, customers, employees, and all levels of management.? 

  • Adaptability to performing under stress when confronted with emergent, critical, unusual, or dangerous situations, or situation in which working speed and sustained attention are make-or-break aspects of the job.?? 

  • Adaptability to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.? 

  • Ability to maintain both a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers.?? 

  • Adaptability to accepting responsibility for the direction, control or planning of an activity.?? 

  • Adaptability to situations requiring the precise attainment of set limits, tolerances or standards.?? 

  • Adaptability to perform repetitive work or to perform continuously the same work, according to set procedures sequence or pace.? 

  • Strong analytical skills.? 

  • Mechanical and/or electrical troubleshooting skills.? 

  • Highly organized with the ability to work on multiple project teams concurrently.? 

 

Physical Requirements: 

Exert 50-100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 25-50 lbs. of force frequently  

Constant (67%-100% of work day)
