The Supervisor maintains collaborative relationships with District administrators, local health care professionals, a variety of community agencies, the Iowa Board of Nursing, the Iowa Department of Education and State and County Public Health Departments. This position requires continuous use of independent judgment. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility and specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the Learning Supports, Special Education, and Human Resources departments.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provide leadership to the district''s health care professionals based on current medical standards of care and make recommendations for improvements. Manage health services budget. Develop, revise, and implement the orientation program for new school nurses. Supervise and guide the health services program. Assist with providing health services to students as needed. Support the provision of health education initiatives to students, families and communities. Work with area health care providers and school staff to eliminate barriers to health. Coordinate the implementation of district policies as they relate to employee health and safety. Coordinate the assignment of health care professionals. Assist in the hiring process of school nurses and recommend building school nurse assignments. Assist the building administrator in the performance appraisal process of district health professionals. Provide guidance and oversight in the implementation of health care programs based on identified needs, including Section 504, IEPs and Individual Health Care Plans. Provide medical expertise and general professional development opportunities for district health services. Collaborate with building principals in their evaluation of school nurses. Facilitate health education and skill training for district employees. Assist with health education curriculum development and delivery. Support the work of the Human Resources Department as it relates to employee hiring, facilitation of essential staff training, interpretation of district practices related to health and safety, consultation with employees who have specific health care needs, and compliance with employee health rules and regulations. Assist in the process of maintaining accurate student health records. Provide support and guidance to district administrators related to Section 504 plans. Promote and lead the district''s participation in Medicaid reimbursement activities for health services in collaboration with the Executive Director of Special Education and the Chief Financial Officer. Collaborate with others in various District departments and the surrounding community to promote and improve student and staff health and safety. Partner with area and state health departments in the development of crisis response plans. Facilitate district response to school based or community-wide health emergencies/communicable disease outbreaks. Promote effective communication with health and welfare agencies, school staff, and families. Provide for evaluation and planning of school health services and health education initiatives as it relates to changing community needs and developments for students and staff. Attend work on a prompt and regular basis. Maintain confidentiality. Proficient use of technology Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees. Assist with other duties as may be assigned. HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:Required: RN licensure in the State of Iowa. Bachelor''s Degree in Nursing. 3-5 years experience in school nursing or public health. Must be able to work independently and possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Proven leadership ability. Valid driver''s license. Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills. Preferred: Licensed PK-12 School Nurse, Iowa Board of Educational Examiners Nationally Certified School Nurse (NCSN) Background and expertise in school records management, employee health programs, and Medicaid reimbursement programs. Experience using District computer programs and applications. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
