Role Overview This position is for a Mechanical Engineer to join the Avionics Design to Cost (DTC) team. The primary focus of this position will be to provide DTC support for product design, development and procurement efforts throughout Collins Aerospace. This role will have a focus on mechanical producibility and development of accurate costing tools to support design to cost efforts. Design to Cost provides project teams with a leadership role for achieving recurring cost requirements through the application of innovative cost reduction strategies. Design to Cost offers great opportunities for a diverse work environment, playing a critical role in key business pursuits and product development efforts of the business units of the company. DTC team members enjoy a very dynamic role, gaining exposure with a wide variety of product types. Primary Responsibilities: * Perform the development and deployment of software based costing and analysis tools in support of mechanical costing and producibility efforts * Perform cost analysis and support the proactive achievement of cost goals for typical systems and products under development. * Provide technical knowledge in support of a balanced approach of manufacturability improvements and overall part cost. * Perform producibility reviews on new designs to identify opportunities to improve yield and reduce cost. * Expedite issues related to producibility and procurement of mechanical parts, working with the cognizant design engineer, supply base and supply chain to resolve drawing, part, cost and quality issues. Basic Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelor's degree in the appropriate discipline and 7 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant ************* the absence of a degree, 11 years of relevant experience is required. US Citizenship or Permanent Residence required. * Experience with mechanical fabrication and producibility * Experience estimating costs of fabricated components * Understanding of common material and process specifications as well as manufacturing processes * Experience with complex analysis of mechanical systems for optimization towards manufacturability and assembly. Preferred Skills & Experience: * Background in Mechanical fabrication, including understanding of supplier capabilities * Background in product design, development, and factory transition * Basic understanding of engineering and manufacturing processes * Basic understanding of procurement practices, preferably with SAP experience * Basic understanding of design trade-off techniques * Good understanding of cost estimating techniques and key production-based cost drivers * Good understanding of principles and techniques commonly used in product development * Knowledge of Product Definition Instructions (PDI), Product Definition Dataset (PDD) and Preferred Materials and Processes (PM & P) * Knowledge of business & technical consistent processes * User of NX (Unigraphics), Enovia (Engineering Central), Canvas, VisView, e2i, aPriori, Paradigm, PDM, SAP, PREP, HIS, Word, Excel and/or Powerpoint) At Collins, the paths we pave together lead to limitless possibility.
