Job Description Collins Aerospace is looking for an experienced Sr Mechanical Engineer to join the Avionics Mechanical Engineering team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This position will work collaboratively with our team and others to design, develop and maintain high-quality, reliable, and safe avionics equipment. As a mechanical engineer in our department, you will be responsible for working with other hardware and systems engineers to support new and existing products. Projects include support of cockpit displays and control panels, servos for control surface actuation, military avionics, flight controls, as well as a variety of other avionics equipment to enable aircraft connectivity. Responsibilities Include: Investigation of production issues, including developing and implementing solutions Collaboration with product development teams to meet program cost and schedule targets Work independently to solve moderately complex technical challenges Support thermal and/or vibration testing of products to ensure survivability or for product improvement Support in-service avionics hardware failure investigations Facilitate build of prototype assemblies for testing Mentor other mechanical engineers in process-related and/or technical subjects Individual job duties may vary This position requires a commitment to professional working hours that extend beyond a typical 40 hour workweek Basic Qualifications: Bachelor---s degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience OR In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor---s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations. Have demonstrated problem solving skills and an understanding of engineering principles Have experience with 3D parametric modeling in CAD tools such (e.g. NX, Solidworks, etc.) Understanding of thermodynamics & heat transfer and its application in electronics cooling Understanding of manufacturing methods & limitations (i.e. sheet metal fabrication, machining, casting, plastic molding, etc.) US Citizenship or Permanent Resident/Green Card required.
