BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY The communications team at the Tippie College of Business at the Employer engages directly with students, alumni, peer business schools, employees, and corporate partners through digital, print, and social media to tell the academic, research, and outreach story of Tippie in a way that inspires respect, belonging, and financial support. We are seeking a Communications Specialist to plan, develop, and implement the outreach efforts of the finance and accounting departments through the writing, editing, and production of Exchange and Iowa Ledger alumni magazines. In addition, this position serves as the coordinator of the colleges internal communication including the colleges intranet and will manage the colleges digital asset management system. This role will support, implement, and improve the communication efforts of the college as a member of the communications team. ABOUT TIPPIE COLLEGE OF BUSINESS As a Top-25 public business school, were known for our academic rigor, our work ethic, and our Iowa-nice culture. We are over 3,000 students, in programs spanning BBA to PhD. We are six academic departmentsaccounting, economics, finance, marketing, management and entrepreneurship, and business analytics. We are eight centers and institutes, and three student-managed endowment funds. We are 50,000 alumni and growing. We hold the gold standard of accreditations, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), and have maintained the accreditation since 1923. Our leadership is forward-thinking and pioneering, and our advisory boards serve as eyes and ears to industry. KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY (KARS) Message Development and Implementation: Editor and writer of the Iowa Ledger accounting alumni magazine and Exchange finance magazine. Coordinates all aspects of magazine production including development, production, budgeting, and distribution. Manage donor stewardship print and digital publications. Coordinator internal collegiate communication including the colleges intranet (Tippie Information Portal TIP) capturing key collegiate messages as well as updating, editing and creating content as needed. Coordinate the monthly Tippie news email. Public Relations: Create press releases on collegiate research, events and recognitions as needed. Information Management: Coordinate the colleges Digital Asset Management system (Third Light), establishing access and training to new employees, ensuring that faculty and staff have updated photographs in the collegiate directory, and archiving photography as needed. Create survey tools to gauge readership and effectiveness of both print and electronic collegiate publications. Strategic Planning: May assist in the coordination/preparation of strategic communications plans in support of a project, program, department, or the college. Financial Responsibility: Develop budgets for each publication and monitor expenses and process invoices as needed. Provide input on departmental budget development. Leadership/Supervision: Provide direction, assignments, and feedback to student workers as needed. Education Required: A bachelors degree in journalism, communications, marketing or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Qualifications: Typically (3-5) years experience in an editorial or publications capacity. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of the principles of editing and publishing. Proficient in Microsoft Office software systems. Demonstrated ability to interact positively with a diverse population. Desired Qualifications: Experience working with content in Drupal and WordPress. Experience with digital asset management programs. The ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
